Background

Today’s armed conflicts and crisis evolve rapidly and are increasingly complex. They tend to be greater in number, often in urban settings, longer in duration and broader in regional impact. They generate human sufferings on a greater scale, and exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. The magnitude and complexity of the resulting humanitarian needs are tremendous, and short-term solutions are not enough to respond to those. In addition, in many conflict-affected areas, humanitarian access can no longer be taken for granted.

In such complex and fast-moving environment, innovative approaches and responses, adapted to the reality on the ground, must be developed to address today’s humanitarian challenges. In recognition of this, the International Committee of the Red-Cross (ICRC) and EPFL launched in September 2015 the Humanitarian Tech Hub combining ICRC extensive humanitarian experience and knowledge with EPFL innovative capacity.

The Hub is hosted in the EPFL’s Cooperation Development Center (CODEV) and work closely with CODEV‘s EssentialTech Program
