The ISJRP launched its first call for research proposals in January 2015, aimed at Swiss and Indian researcher wishing to initiate collaboration on Information Technologies or Life Sciences.
A total of 41 applications (35 in the field of Information Technology and 6 in Life Sciences) were received.
After a rigurous external evaluation both in Switzerland and India, following by the approval by the Chairs of the Swiss and the Indian Joint Committees, 12 projects (9 in Information Technology and 3 in Life Sciences) were selected for funding. The projects started on December 2005.
In Switzerland, a total of CHF 2 million (94% for research projects, 6% for programme management) had been made available by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to spend under this first phase. Swiss funds were matched by funds from the Indian Department for Science and Technology (DST).
The grants funded salaries for research assistants, travel grants to stimulate scientific exchanges between the scientists and students working on the projects and project consumables.
