The Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme (ISJRP) was founded in 2005 by the Indian and Swiss governments in order to promote bilateral research cooperation in areas mutual interest. ISJRP supports cutting-edge research that brings together faculty and students from Switzerland and India.

The ISJRP is financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST) on the principle of matching funding. A National Steering Committee oversees the programme management. Representatives from both countries gather in Joint Committee Meetings every two years.

In Switzerland, the ISJRP was coordinated by EPFL Leading House from 2005 to 2016. The Leading House developed the strategic orientation of the programme and managed pilot instruments for cooperation, in collaboration with the University of Lausanne (UNIL), as Associated Leading House, for the activities in social sciences.

The management of the Joint Research Projects was transferred to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) in 2013.
