Soyapi Mumba is an award-winning technology innovator with over 15 years experience in implementing technology solutions for low-resourced environments. He oversees development of electronic health surveillance and reporting systems for public hospitals in Malawi. Previously, he led the development of Malawi’s national electronic health record system which helps low-resourced public clinics serve large volumes of patients while adhering to treatment and reporting guidelines.
Soyapi is a TED Fellow and a national prize winner of 2010 Innovations in Maternal Newborn and Child Health. The innovation provides healthcare advice by phone, was recognised by WHO’s Social Innovation in Health Initiative (2017) and is being scaled-up nationally by Malawi Government. He sits on the board of mHub, Malawi’s first technology innovation hub, and he is featured in the book “The Bright Continent: Breaking Rules and Making Change in Modern Africa.”
He holds a MSc in Biomedical Informatics and BSc in Computer Science.
