EPFL led scientific cooperation activities with Brazil during 2008-2016. First during a pilot stage over 2008-2011, and then between 2012-2016 as Leading House in charge of the development and coordination of the Brazilian-Swiss Joint Research Programme (BSJRP). Various instruments were implemented to encourage joint research projects, researchers exchanges, and academia-industry linkages, bringing together scientists from Switzerland and Brazil in various disciplinary areas.
During the phase 2008-2012, other countries in Latin America were identified as potential additional partners for bilateral scientific collaboration with Switzerland. With Chile, the Chilean-Swiss Joint Research Programme (CSJRP) was implemented over 2009-2012 fostering collaboration in energy, environment and climate change. With Colombia and Mexico pilot projects were funded in 2012.
