EVALUATION OF THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BRAZILIAN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SAFE AND VALUABLE FUNCTIONAL FOODS
With population aging and life expectancy improvement the number of degenerative diseases has increased significantly. The development of new safe functional foods able to prevent these diseases is very important. In this context, tropical fruits represent an original and valuable source of new chemopreventive agents. The present project aims at studying edible plants having beneficial health proprieties using modern chemical profiling strategies together with relevant bioassays. This should lead to the selection of a fruit or vegetable extract well characterised chemically and showing an interesting biological activity. This might ultimately be manufactured as a functional food in a sustainable and ethical manner.
