EUPHORIAWATT: EUPHORBIACEAE WITH AMELIORATED WATER-STRESS TOLERANCE

Abstract

Jatropha and cassava are emerging as important Euphorbiaceae energy crops in South America, Africa and Asia. Their yield potential remains limited by several factors such as drought in North East Brazil.
We propose to develop in vitro techniques for Jatropha and cassava improvement and test transgenic approaches to raise their resistance to drought. Additionally we will investigate crop response to drought with cutting-edge functional genomics techniques to generate the first large scale proteome modulation maps for Euphorbiaceae crops.
