COMPARATIVE TRANSCRIPTOMICS IN LEPROSY

Abstract

Leprosy is an important public health problem in Brazil and results from infection with Mycobacterium leprae, an unculturable pathogen. Depending on host immunogenetics the disease manifests in different forms, and some are difficult to diagnose. Comparative transcriptomics will be used to detect signatures correlating with a particular disease stage in order to find better prognostic markers and thus help in patient management.
