Description

Environmental protection against chemical pollutants is a growing necessity in Latin America that needs the development of research centers that are trained and active in environmental analytical chemistry. The problems to study and to do the research as well as the socio-economic boundary conditions are quite similar in most of the Latin American countries. These are reason why RACAL (Red de Analisis y Control Ambiental Latinoamericana) was created in 1993.

The institutions joining RACAL programm have allowed to define the following main topics for a pratical cooperative action :

  • Concept of intercalibration and reference materials
  • Development of joint research programmes
  • Mutual training activities
  • Promotion of Universities in environmental studies
  • Establishment of a joint scientific basis to develop legal environmental policies

These topics correspond to the most urgent pratical needs of the Latin American research groups already involved in environmental analytical chemistry with the motivation to give more adequate and more effective answers to striking environmental problems of their countries.
